The Life of Elizabeth Nash

Elizabeth “Betty” Busby Nash, 87, of the 1300 block of Avonlea Court in Chesapeake, Virginia passed away at home on October 23, 2014. During hospice care at her daughters home, she was surrounded by her loving family, caregivers devoted dog-Shiloh “Peedabber” Query, neighbors, and friends. She was born May 28, 1927 in Hickory, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late William Marshall and Blanche Settlemyre Busby. She was a 1944 graduate of Hickory High School. She also graduated from Appalachian State Teacher’s College. Betty taught home economics for many years in the Statesville City School System. After retiring from teaching, she did social work with the elderly before her final career work as a real estate agent with Hunter Realty, which later became Coldwell Real Estate Agency in Statesville, North Carolina. Betty was very active in her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church as well as the community. She received a service award for the Statesville Noon Civitan Club as well as numerous awards as a real estate agent for Top Lister, Top Producer, and Million Dollar Producer. Betty married the love of her life, Marcus Leonard Nash on July 11, 1953. Marcus died on March 21, 1973. Her second marriage was on September 2, 1979 to Huron Watts, who died on March 9, 1998. Betty is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Nash Query, son in law, Jimmy Query, and only granddaughter, Helen Elizabeth Query, with whom she lived for the last seven years of her life. She is also survived by her brother, Herman Busby of Atlanta, Georgia. She is predeceased by her sister, Doris Ramsey Kirby and two brothers, William “Bill Junior” Busby and Charles Busby. A visitation will be held at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville on Friday October 31 from 6:00 until 8:00p.m.Betty will be buried next to her husband, Marcus L. Nash at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, North Carolina. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday November 1st at 10:00a.m. by W. Richard Fritz, Jr. of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Hickory, N.C. where Betty was a member. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Virginia 1700 Bayberry Ct. Richmond, Virginia 23226, or the Alzheimer’s Association 6350 Center Drive Norfolk, Virginia 23502. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Nash family.
