The Life of Solon Ruth Rogers

Solon R. Rogers Is Dead

Olathe people were shocked Wednesday Wednesday evening to learn of the death of Mr. Solon R. Rogers.

Mr. Rogers had been quite ill for over three weeks but was reported much better Wednesday forenoon. Shortly after 12 o''clock septic pneumonia  set in and he passed away at 8:15 o''clock.

Solon Ruth Rogers was born in Hendrix county, Indiana, June 2, 1843. He graduated from Earlham college, Richmond, Ind., and taught school until the Civil War broke out. He enlisted in the 4th Indiana Cavalry Cavalry and served 19 months as a dispatch  orderly.

He came to Johnson county In 1867 and settled on a farm near Prairie Center. He married Sophia Elizabeth Hadley, who died in 1909. To this union four children were born, two of whom are now living, Evelyn, now Mrs. W. M. Hall, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mr. B. H. Rogers, editor and manager of The Olathe Mirror.

In 1913, Mr. Rogers married Mrs. Edith King, of this county, who survives him. Seven grand children and two great grand children survive In 1883

Mr. Rogers was elected treasurer of Johnson county, and was re-elected re-elected iin 1885. In 1884 he moved to Olathe and was in the employ of the Government  as rural mail carrier for 18 years until he was retired on a pension about three years ago.

Mr. Rogers was a great lover of horses and it was a familiar sight to see him riding through the streets of Olathe, sitting his horse as erect as any cavalry man on dress parade. While Mr. Rogers was 80 years of age he had the mentality and physique of a man of 50. He was kindly and upright in his dealings with men.

He was reared and educated in the Quaker faith. He leaves many friends who will share the grief of his family. The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon, August 31, at the Methodist church at 2:30.
