The Life of Ruben Rieger

Ruben Rieger, 83, of Gardner, passed away March 18, 2007 at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at King of Kings Lutheran Church, PO Box 364, 306 E. Madison, Gardner, KS 66030. Burial will follow at Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to King of Kings. Ruben was born June 12, 1923 in Wakpala, South Dakota to Peter and Katharina (Merkel) Rieger. During WWII he served in the US Navy. He grew up in the Dakotas and moved to Olathe in 1956. He married Helen Louise Thorsen on June 14, 1957 in Olathe, KS. He retired from Delco Battery in 1987 after 32 years of employment. He was a member of the UAW Local #1021. His passion was gardening. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Elmer and Edmund and sister Elinor. Ruben is survived by his wife Helen of the home; son Randy and wife Sandy Rieger, and daughter Ramona and husband Tyson Hoffman, all of Gardner; four grandchildren Jamie, Jessica, Ashley and Jacob; sisters Lodifa Markel of Hoopla, ND, Lantina Linquist of Garden Grove, CA; brother Melbert Rieger of Sunny Valley, OR; and sisterin-law Christine Rieger of Decatur, NE.
