The Life of Larry Dean Woolsey Sr

Larry Dean Woolsey Sr., 67, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend to everyone who knew him.

Larry was born on March 26, 1948 in Livermore, California to Basil Cardinal and Ruth Arlene (Smith) Woolsey. He attended grade school in Ottawa, Kansas and attended high school in Olathe. On July 12, 1966, Larry married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue (Cress) Woolsey. They lived in Olathe where they raised two sons, Larry Dean Woolsey Jr. and Troy Sean Woolsey. Larry and Carolyn were married for 46 years. They were the best of friends and did everything together.

Larry enjoyed fishing and camping with family and all his friends. He liked working on cars with the boys, motorsports, and classic cars and cooking. During the spring and summer, you could find him at Lakeside Speedway. Larry spent a lot of time gardening. He was always proud of his tomatoes. He took pride in his yard and always had lots of beautiful flowers. Larry loved watching movies, especially James Bond!! Carolyn always kept him busy seeking out garage sales and shopping. He was the designated driver for all their adventures. Larry was a dedicated employee for Atmos Energy where he retired after 30+ years.

Larry is preceded in death by his loving wife Carolyn Woolsey and his parents Basil and Ruth Woolsey. He is survived by his two sons; Larry D. Woolsey Jr. and his wife Dena of Olathe, Kansas and Troy Woolsey and his wife Elizabeth of Springhill, Kansas. One brother, Dave Woolsey of Warsaw, Missouri and two sisters, Joyce Brown of Greenville, South Carolina and Jeri Poe of Olathe, Kansas. Left behind to cherish his memory are his four grandchildren; Erica Woolsey, Taylor Woolsey, Logan Woolsey, Kennedy Woolsey, one great grandson, Nolan Woolsey and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am with a memorial service following at 11:00 on Friday, April 17, 2015 at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. An inurnment will take place in the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Abundant Life Church 124th Antioch Road Overland Park, Kansas.
