he was raised in Olathe and on Dec 27, 1877 she married Oscar TILFORD. Besides living in Kansas City for two year then Winfield, they lived the rest of their lives in Olathe when they returned in 1890. Emma was baptisted in the Chirstian Church at the age of 12 by Rev. Alexander MCKEEVER. She was described as a very Christian, womanly, woman

. For a number of years she was president of the Ladies Ald and C.W.B.M. and was the charter member of the Sigourness club. She is survived by her husband, a son Floyd in Wichita, a daughter Mrs. L.W. SANFORD of Kansas City, a sister Mrs. Fred PRATT of Kansas City and a brother J.R. BROWN of Olathe, A daughter, Jennie passed away at the age of 2 years. Burial took place on 01/27/192

"Obituary provided by Kenneth Roe; Death of Mrs. Oscar Tilford; The death of Mrs. Oscar Tilford occurred Monday morning at the family home 231 South Kansas Avenue. The funeral service was held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the home, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Scrivner. Burial was made in Olathe cemetery.; Ella Brown, daughter of the late J. R. and Susan Brown, was born December 8, 1858, at Old Lanesfield, near what is now Edgerton. When she was a very small child her parents moved to Olathe, where she attended school and grew to womanhood.; December 27, 1877, she was united in marriage to Oscar H. Tilford, and after living in Olathe two years they moved to Kansas City and resided three years. They then went to Winfield, returning to Olathe in 1890, where the home has been continuously since that time.; She united with the Christian church at the age of 12 years, having been baptized by Alexander McKeever. She was a devoted Christian woman, a lover of the church and its works - a woman of high ideals and a pure mind, which resulted in a noble character. Kind and generous, she was always among the first to respond to a call to relieve distress or to take her part in church or social events. She was a womanly woman, cultured, refined, modest and gentle, possessing a character that made her a pwer for good among her wide circle of acquaintances.; For a number of years she was president of the Ladies Aid and C. W. B. M. and was a charter member of the Sigournean Club.; She is survived by her husband, a son, Floyd, Wichita, a daughter, Mrs. L. W. Sanford, Kansas City, a sister, Mrs. Fred Pratt, Kansas City, and a brother, J. R. Brown, Olathe. A daughter , Jennie, died at the age of two.; The Olathe Mirror, Thursday, January 29, 1920"
