Letha Shields, 96, of Gardner, KS, died January 12, 2013. Born in Haddam, KS, she lived in Olathe most of her life. She will always be remembered as a mother whose first priority was taking care of her family. Letha earned a Teaching Certificate from Kansas State University and taught in a one-room school in a rural area of north central KS. In later years she worked as a secretary in Central School in Olathe. For many years Letha was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Olathe. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, and three children, Cheryl Kay, Byron Shields and Barbara Bowman. Letha is survived by two daughters, Carole Sebits, of Santa Barbara, CA, and Debbie Andera of Gardner, KS, as well as by three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Olathe at a later date. Interment by McGilley and Frye in Olathe. Her family wishes to thank the staffs of Vintage Park in Gardner, Good Samaritan in Olathe and Crossroads Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
