The Life of Bernard Leon Sorenson

B. “Leon” Sorenson, 85, of Olathe, KS passed away Monday Dec. 9, 2013 at the Olathe Medical Center. Leon was born March 5, 1928, in Solomon, Kansas, to Andy and Eva Neaderhiser Sorenson. He was the younger brother to Betty Sorenson. He lived in Solomon, through high school. He had the choice of being drafted into the Army out of high school or enlisting to go into WW2 a week after graduation. He chose enlistment. When he came home he attended Emporia State College until he was called back into the Army to serve in the Korean War. He served 4 years in Korea.

Leon worked for Healzer Cartage Company in Kansas City for several years. He went to work for Commercial Credit Corporation in Salina Kansas. He became the Loan Manager there. During that time he met JoAnne Loquist, a co-worker. They were married a year and a half later in July 28, 1957. They lived in Solomon for several years while they both worked in Salina. Their son, Kent L. Sorenson was born. They moved to Salina, Kansas in early 1962.

Leon became the Manager in Salina until opening an office in Great Bend, Kansas in 1971 and then opened an office in the Shawnee Mission area in 1974. Leon and JoAnne lived in Olathe, Kansas and their son Kent attended the Olathe schools. After several years the Commercial Credit offices in Kansas were sold. He went to a different part of the organization until that business sold.

Leon worked for a couple of other financial companies before retiring. Leon retired and decided he would rather care for his grandchildren than anything else.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Eva Sorenson, brother-in law, Keith Glatt.

Leon is survived by his wife of 56 years-JoAnn; son-Kent and girlfriend Debbie Dotson, Olathe, KS, grandson-Chris L Sorenson-Olathe; granddaughter-Tara R Sorenson-Pittsburg, KS; sister-Betty Glatt-Salina Ks; 2 nephews-Andy Glatt-Salina, Ks, Eric Loquist-Osage City, KS; 2 nieces-Melissa Loquist-Wichita, KS and Sarah Loquist-Topeka, KS.
