The Life of Lenora W Thomas

Leora Whinery Thomas.
Leora Whinery Thomas, eldest daughter of Allen H. and Mary Whinery, was born near Oxford; Ind. March 24, 1859, and died at her home near Olathe, Kansas, June 1, 1920; -aged 61 years, two months and eight days. She was married at Cameron, Mo., February 23; 1892, to Steven G. Thomas, of Olathe, Kansas, and to this union were born two children, J. Allen Thomas and Martha M. Thomas, who still survive her. Besides this son and daughter she leaves two 'sisters, Mrs Anna M. Anderson of Bedford, Indiana, and Mrs. Stella Lackey, of Oxford', Ind., who were with her during her illness and at the time of her death.

Steven Thomas died October 19, 1907, and Mrs. Thomas, with her children, continued to live on the farm, seven miles southwest of Olathe, where all her married life had been spent. She united with the Christian church in her girlhood, and after her marriage, she with her husband became identified with the Sunday school work in the community in which they lived, known as Jerusalem. Here her influence for good was felt and appreciated by her neighbors and friends.

In later years she became a member of the Presbyterian, church at Gardner and kept up her interest in this work as long as her strength permitted. Her health had been failing for more than a year but she continued her duties in the home until about two months ago. Since that time, her strength failed rapidly, but her mind remained clear and she was able to see and talk with her friends, who came with, flowers and dainties to show their love and sympathy. At one time, Mrs. Thomas in speaking of childhood days, told of how her mother would call the children in of an evening and said, "Ah, mother dear, when the evening of my life draws nigh, will you stand beside my Father at the golden gate and call again, 'Come Home'." '

The call has come and she has answered the summons.

The funeral service was conducted at the home, Thursday afternoon, June 3, by , the Rev. A. G. Parker, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Gardner and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the cemetery at Olathe
