The Life of Franz Josef Moll Sr

Obituary.

Died. On Oct. 27th, 1892. At 6:40 o’clock p.m. at the residence  of W.H. Moll 5  miles west of Olathe, Joseph Olathe Moll Sr. at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 17 days, after an illness of 7 weeks, which the doctors pronounced “Old Age”. He leaves a wife and 8 children to mourn their loss, and to them the community extend their heartfelt sympathy and prayer.  To him was brought release from suffering and pain, and to us it brings the thought 'Our loss is his gain." The remains were buried in the Eudora cemetery Saturday. Oct. 29th.

Father Moll was born  in Baden, Germany, in 1811, and came to America with his parents before he had reached  his majority. He often spoke of the voyage across the sea, they coming on a sail ship and being on the water ninety-one days. The voyage was made from Havre to New York. He lived in New York until 1839. When he removed to Perry county, Missouri. Two years previous to this he had been united in marriage with Miss Regina Keiser. In his new home in Missouri, he engaged in farming until 1850 when ne removed to St. Clair county, Illinois. Here he engaged in the mercantile business until 1860, when with his wife and ten children he emigrated to the territory of Kansas., and located in Johnson county where he resided until the time of his death.

He had lived the full allotted time and passed to rest in obedience to an inexorable law of nature.

“Dear father, thy loss is deeply felt
By all who loved thee well.
And many hearts with sorrow melt.
When these sad words they tell.

Ah! little did we think that death
World so soon among us stand.
And take the one we loved so well
From out the household band.”
