The Life of William Edward Moll
DEATH OF WM. MOLL
Member of Well Known Family Here Since 1860
After an illness of about four months with Bright''s Disease Wm. Moll died at his home, 523 West Santa Fe Street, Sunday morning, August 10th, at 2 o''clock. The funeral service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. C. B. Zook. At the grave the G. A. R., of which he was a member, member, gave their ritualistic service.
Wm. Moll was born at Applecreek, Missouri, in 1840. A few years later he went with his parents to Mascoutah, Illinois. He came with them to Johnson county in 1860 and settled on the home farm, five miles west of Olathe.
Mr. Moll was married to Ellen Saner and to this union five children were born. A few years after her death he was united in marriage to Melissa O''Roark and four children were born to this union. All of the children are living, as follows: Mrs. John Moll, Mrs. Geo. Pretz, Mrs. Gus Moll, Mrs. Edgar Pack, Jim Moll, Mrs. Will Spaulding. Guy, Roy and Otto Moll.
About twenty-one years ago Mr. Moll retired from the farm and moved to Olathe where for several years he bought and sold live stock. He was an old soldier, having served three years and six months in the 12th Kansas Infantry under Col. J. E. Hayes. It was very fitting then that the honorary pall bearers were members of the G. A. R. and that they should conduct the services at the grave. The active pall bearers were chosen from the Odd Fellows, of which he was a member.
The Moll family and its various branches, including the children most of whom live in or near Olathe, numbers 100. Of these there are 35 male voters, all of them Republicans except one. Since woman''s suffrage passed last fall the voting strength of this family has been increased to 88.
No one ever questioned the honesty, honesty, integrity and uprightness of Wm. Moll his word was as good as a government bond. Generous to a fault, if such could be, a true husband and kind father, a practical Christian, he was truly a good man. Johnson county, Olathe and the G. A. R. may well lament the death of such a man as Wm. Moll. We shall miss him as the true and useful are missed, and he will be mourned as the true and generousof all mankind are mourned.
Relatives from obut of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Mary Dolisi, Louis Moll and John Dolisi and family of Eudora, A. B. Pretz and family of Argentine, Mr. and Mrs. Frs. Frank Moll of Mascoutah, Illinois, J. B. Moll of Gardner and Mr. and Mrs. George Spaulding of Kansas City and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Varnes of Holton.
