The Life of Mary W Little
July 16, 1913
It was the desire of Mrs. Mary B, Little that her funeral notice be brief and last week we gave an account of her death as requested a short time before she passed away. Mrs. Little was a noble and kind woman and her life was devoted to her family, friends, church and charitable work. She was a friend of Olathe where she had lived for forty-five years and was secretary of the library board. Mrs. Little was a writer of ability and many of her writings have been published in the Kansas City Star and other metropolitan papers. She was a devoted wife and mother and Olathe loses a noble woman. A few years ago her little grandchild, Maxine Little, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Little, died, and Mrs. Little wrote the following at the time
THY WAYS, O, DEATH.
A mother bending o'er her little one,
With anguished fear did plead
"Spare, spare O, death, 'tis all I have, O spare.
The Reaper paid no heed,
But took the child.
A woman old and weary, tired of life,
Prayed "Death don't pass me by,"
But death, whose ways are so mysterious,
Stalked on, and came not nigh,
Me thinks death smiled!"
Mrs. Little was active in all her work, always had a kind word for everyone and all were her friends. The funeral services were conducted bv Rev. H. E. Toothaker, of the Episcopal church here, and the Episcopal service was read. Several hundred friends and relatives attended the sad services. Mrs. Little leaves a husband, Judge John T. Little, her mother, Mrs. H. Winteroll of Paseo Robles, Cal., and two sons, C. B. Little of this city and John T. Little, Jr., of Spokane, Wash.
