The death of Death of Walter E. Lawson

The death of Walter Ernest Lawson, occurred Wednesday evening, Oct. 16, at 5 o’clock, at the new home, about six miles southeast of Ottawa, when he and Jim, with their families moved less than a month ago. A short service was held at the home at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, and the body brought to Olathe on the 4:15 Santa Fe. Funeral services were held here at the grave at 2 o’clock Friday, conducted by Rev. Scriver. Rev. Fraser, formerly Baptist pastor in Olathe, conduced the service in Ottawa.

Walter had been busy sowing wheat when he became ill. He rested awhiule, tried his work again, but had to give up and go to bed, the physician ponounicng it influenza. It was just nine days until death came. This was the first time he had required medical attention since the age of three.

Walter was born at Santa Fe, Mo., April 22, 18990, and was the son of Mrs. Nannie E. Lawson. When he was three years old the family moved to Olathe township, southeast of Olathe. Since the age of 16, Walter had made his own way.

At the age of 14 he joined the Christian church, and was active in the work of the church. He was what might be termed a model young man, was well behaved, thereby showing good home training, was always deferential to his elders, and polite and courteous to all.

He was married January 6, 1917, to Miss Edna G. Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cook, Harrisonville, Mo., the marriage taking place in Olathe. They lived in Kansas City a year, then in Pitcher, Okla., but have since been farming.
