Mr. J. R. Moore died in this city on last Thursday morning, July 2nd, aged eighty vears, four months and twentv days. He was born in North Cumberland county, Penn. In early life he was a raftsman on the rivers of his native state. Later he worked on internal improvements, being at one time a canal contractor and at another a bridge builder.
In 1846 he moved to Ohio and thence to Kansas in 1872. After leaving Pennsylvania his occupation was farming until he came to Olathe two years ago. Mr. Moore was a very social man, delighting in friendly conversation and full of recollections of early times in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Although of a religious family he made no profession of piety until about a year and a half ago, when he united with the Presbyterian church, having a clear consciousness of the new life. His funeral occurred ten davs after that of his wife, with whom he journeyed for fifty four years.
