The Life of James A Moore
Obituary.
Died at Olathe, May 12, 1886. at o'clock p. m., of paralysis, Jas. A. Moore, aged 53 years, 1 month,and 4 days.
Jas. A. Moore dwas born in Northcumberland county, Pa., April 8, 1833. His parents afterwad removed to Ohio, where he lived until April 1862, at which time he enlisted in the three months service and served that time in Western Virginia in Co. G, 20th. O. V. I. In Sept. 1862 he reinlisted as a private in Co. E. 121st. O. V. Soon afterward he was commissioned 2d. Lieut, in the 121st. Reg't. and commanded his company at the battle of Perrysville, Ky, the captain of his company been taken prisoner early in the engagement. He was severely wounded in the battle of Chickamauga Sept. 20th, 1863 but rejoined his regiment the following April, and was in Sherman's army in the "March to the sea," and was again wounded at Savannah, Ga. He was also in the battle of Jonesboro. Ga.. and also that at Bentonville, N. C. He was captain of Co. F. 121st, O. V. I., 14th, Army Corps, 2d. Div. 2d. Brigade.
He came to Kansas in 1872 and lived on a farm near Olathe until the Spring of 1883, when he came with his father and mother to Olathe. He married Mary E. James in Dec. 1883 and died Mav 12th. 1886. .
The funeral services were held at the residence on east Lulu street Fridav forenoon, conducted by Rev. A. ST. Hagerty assisted by Rev. Renwick. The members of Franklin Post G. A. R. then took charge of the obsequies and the remains were escorted to their last resting placed in Olathe cemetery bv a detachment of Co., A. K. N. G. A soldiers salute by the firing squad terminated the last sad rites. And thus passed away a brave soldier, a loyal man, a genial companion, a true friend.
