MRS. MARQUIS DEAD.

The sudden death of Mrs. David D. Marquis at her home in this city Saturday, December 5, brought sadness to many homes in this city. The funeral, which was conducted by Rev. McNutt n the Presbyterian church, was largely attended by the many friends of the deceased and her family. The pulpit of the church was beautifully decorated with flowers by friends, as was also the grave with evergreen where the remains were lowered to their last resting place.

Agnes J. Byers was born in Ohio, March 20, 1828. She was the only daughter in a family of seven children. She was educated in a female seminary at Stubenville, Ohio, and united with the Presbyterian church at the age of sixteen years. On July 16. 1858 she was married to David D. Marquis. To this union four children were born, one of whom departed this life twenty years ago, and three with her husband survive her; Edward R. and Misses Anna and Mayme Marquis.
She came to Kansas with her husband in 1870, and has resided for many years in this city. She was a devoted Christian and a woman of sweet and unassuming disposition which made her a constant source of hope and cheer to those around her. The sorrow of her companions of so many years and her children is shared by many warm friends in Olathe and Johnson county.
