The Life of Samuel E Mackey

The death of S.E. Mackey which occurred in Kansas City on Wednesday afternoon of last week was a great shock to his old Olathe and Johnson county friends. Mr. Mackey was in apparently good health, and was in Olathe the Monday before his death. Death came while he was sitting in a chair in his own home at 2500 Prospect avenue.

Mr. Mackey was born on January 31, 1842, at Frankport, Ohio. In 1872 he moved to Lawrence and two years later began his residence in Olatbe which was continuous until in May of last year when he moved to Kansas City. He was a prominent Mason and a member of the G. A. R. Mr. Mackey was the first president of the Olathe Commercial club and which attended the funeral at the Methodist church Friday afternoon in a body. During his residence here Mr. Mackey was one of Olathe's most prominent and influential citizens, being one of the directors of the First National bank.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Madison and very largely attended. The Masonic fraternity had charge of the services at the grave. The relatives who attended the funeral were, besides his wife, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Mackey of Kiowa, Mr. Albert Yoe, of Chillacothe, Ohio, brother of Mrs. Mackey, Mr. and Mrs. George ; Simpson of Spring Hill, Mr. Dudley of Kansas City.
