The Life of John Dell McEvoy

John D. McEvoy, 89, of Sugar Creek, MO passed away, Sunday, June 1, 2008 at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Olathe Memorial Cemetery. There will be a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. followed by family visitation until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church. John was born September 17, 1918 in Gretna, NE to John J. and Catherine (Sharkey) McEvoy. He proudly served in the U.S. Army 226th Signal Corp during WWII, serving in five campaigns; North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. He retired after 45 years of service from AT&T working as a lineman, telegrapher, and private line telephone. John enjoyed visiting people, sharing his WWII experiences, gardening, tracking the space shuttle missions and ISS, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Independence, MO, American Legion Post #216 in Gretna, NE, the Telephone Pioneers, and Sugar Creek Business & Civic Club. He is survived by; his wife Betty McEvoy, son, John McEvoy, sister, Kathryn McEvoy and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers
