Harry Keefer, Hardware Man Dies

Harry Keefer, 80 years old, died Saturday afternoon, June 23, at the Bothwell hospital in Sedalia, Mo. He was born February 18, 1865, at Amboy, Ill., a son of George and Mahala Wininger Keefer. He came to Olathe in 1868 and grew to manhood here.

He was married to Miss Ella Ocheltree of Olathe on April 26, 1895. For several years he was associated with his brother, the late Willis C. Keefer, in the hardware business, and also at that time he was agent for the Adams Express company and the Wells-Fargo Express company. When he disposed of his interest in the hardware business he operated a chain of farms in Johnson County. he later moved to Kansas City where he had made his residence for the past twenty-file years. During his residence there he was engaged in the real estate and investment business and operated apartment houses. Recently he purchased property in Warsaw, Mo., where he and his wife had planned to make their home.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Keefer of the home; one son Kenneth Keefer, Warsaw, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Jack Marts, Hutchinson; a half-brother, Bert Gilbert, Olathe, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Walter Long and Mrs. Clarence Hall, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and a granddaghtr, Miss Mary Jane Marts of Hutchinson. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Miss Anna Ocheltree of Kansas City, Mo. and Mrs. Willis Keefer of Olathe.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Julien chapel, conducted by the Rev. H.H. Beers, pastor of the Olathe Presbyterian church. Ben Hedberg, accompanied by Mrs. Frances Grace Koontz, sang "The City Four Square." Pallbearers were Frank Hodges, Jr., E.W. Miller, Loyd Craig, Frank D. Hedrick, C.C. Pember and Harry E. Stewart. Burial was in the Olathe cemetery.
