The Life of Jacob Johnson

JAKE JOHNSON KILLED. While working on the Santa Fe section near Snow Mr. Jake Johnson. a well known colored man of Olathe. was run over by north bound passenger train No. 204 last Friday morning and was instantly killed. Mr Johnson had stepped off of one track to another to let a south bound freight train pass, just as the passenger from the south came rushing in and he was carried on the front of the engine about 150 feet and then thrown to one side of the. track. His body was badly mangled from head to foot, the left hand and left foot being ground to pieces, while the head and entire body was crushed and bruised. The coroner and undertaker were immediately summoned and the body was brought to Julien's undertaking rooms and prepared for burial. Mr. Johnson was known by Olathe people to be an industrious, hard working man, and had many friends among his people and the white people.
