The Life of Myron C Holcomb

MYRON C. HOLCOMB DEAD

Myron C. Holcomb, aged 85 years, died Monday morning, December 9, at his home on East Loula street after an illness of several years duration. Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday morning, December 10, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. M. Buchanan, pastor of the First Presbyterian church and interment was' in Olathe cemetery.

Mr. Holcomb was born in 1827 near Rochester, New York. Early in life he moved with his parents to Michigan, and in the early '40's he came to Kansas and homesteaded a farm near Gardner in this county. After the war he moved to Olathe, where he has since continuously resided. He was in the furniture and undertaking business here for many years, but retired a number of years ago. Mr. Holcomb came here when the city and county were new and he could tell a most interesting story of life in those early days of Kansas. He was quiet and unostentatious, a man of marked business ability and an honest, law-abiding citizen.

He was also a man of remarkable memory and since the death of his wife, Mrs. Susan Phenicie Holcomb, which occurred February 14, 1898, he has lived a great deal in the past. For the last five or six years he has been unable to be upon the streets and during all that time was forced to remain quietly at his home. Everybody knew him and his presence has been greatly missed since sickness compelled him to remain indoors. He was of cheerful disposition and no one ever heard him complain when advancing age and infirmity caused him to suffer. He was a brother-in-law of M. G. Miller and A. E. Farnham, both of whom have been dead for several years.
