DAVID W. HANNON DIES FROM GUNSHOT ACCIDENT

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hannon Was a Junior in Olathe High.

David Wesley Hannon, 15-year-old junior in Olathe high school, was accidentally shot and killed about 10:30 o'clock Sunday morning, near his home, 5 miles southeast of Olathe. He and his chum, Robert Russell, 15-year-old sophomore in Olathe high school, who lived a half mile away, were running their traps as they had been doing through the Christmas holidays. they had stopped to skin a rabbit and were starting home. David picked up Robert's 22 rifle and Robert picked up David's .410-gauge shotgun which accidentally discharged directly into David's chest. Robert ran to the Hannon home a quarter of a mile away and notified David's parents. Mrs. and Mrs. Ralph W. Hannon. Mr. Hannon drove directly to the scene of the accident and rushed David to Olathe, although his father said he believed he was dead when he reached his side.

the two boys were close friends and had been driving daily to high school together. Robert Russell is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Russell who live on the Mrs. George Hodges farm a half mile north of the J. W. Lowe home where the Hannon family lives.

Ralph Hannon returned home two months ago when he was released from active duty in the service. He had served ten months as a sergeant in the Army Air troop carrier service in the European, African and Middle East. Mrs. Hannon and the children had been living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lowe at their farm home. David was a member of the local chapter of Future Farmers of America, the First Presbyterian church and Christian Endeavor society.

Besides his parents and maternal grandparents, David is survived by a brother, R. Warren Hannon, 12, and a sister, Betty Frances Hannon, 7, both of the home, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Grace Hannon, Olathe.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, at the Julien chapel, conducted by the Rev. h. h. beers, pastor of the Presbyterian church, assisted by the Rev. D. Ray Wilcox, pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian church. burial was in the Olathe cemetery.
