The Life of Aaron Vanderveer Lane

Death of Aaron Lane.
During the past few months a goodly number of old citizens of Olathe and vicinity have been called to a higher life. Among this number was one of our highly esteemed citizens, Aaron Lane, to whom death came suddenly on Friday evening, May 6.  The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Monday, May 9, by Rev. Stout and Barns of Olathe and Speer of Gardner.
Mr. Lane was born in Montgomery county, Ohio, January 25, 1827. He came westward to Kansas in 1869, settling in Spring Hill township. He lived there for sixteen years, moving to Olathe in 1885, where he resided until his death. Mr. Lane was a very unpretentious man in all his ways, was not a member of any secret order excepting the Grange. He was a highly respected and consistent member of the Presbyterian church for eighteen years before his death. He was a man well informed and possessed decided convictions of his own. He made up his mind on all subjects only after careful deliberation and when a conclusion was reached in his mind it was because he felt it was right. His life in the main was cheerful, preferring sunlight to gloom It was his object to teach others by his daily work that the first and paramount duty of religion was to make the world better and richer for his having lived in it.
A large concourse of friends were present to offer a last tribute of respect to him. Flowers covered the bier, tears of sympathy flowed, but only the broken casket was there. God had claimed the jewel. Friends could well feel and know that the tottering step was again made young. That the eye was no longer dime. The life that was racked with pain here knew suffering no more. For he died filled with the Christian hope that he should live again.
