The Life of John Henry Klusman Sr

JOHN HENRY KLUSMAN.

John Henry Klusman was born June 23, 1820, in Thedinghausen, Germany. Having been baptised in infancy he received his early intsruction in the parochial school and became a confirmed member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church at the age of 14. In 1841 he was united in holy matrimony with Anna Walters. This union was blessed with twelve children. In 1855 he left the land of his fathers with his family and founded a new home in Preble county, Ohio. In 1869 he came to Kansas to avail himself of the then offered material advantages. He settled in Johnson county, where he has lived ever since.

Grandfather Klusman, as he was known by all, was preceded in death by five of his children and his loving wife. Four of the children died in infancy. Until early last fall Mr. Klusman enjoyed fairly good health. However, about that time his physical troubles suddenly became manv. At times his sufferings were intense but his indestructible humor, his trust in God and his firm hope for a future of eternal bliss never permitted him to murmur.

Mr. Klusman was a man of rare qualities. We have known him to be just and upright me courage and gift to tell any one his infirmities as well as his virtues and without incurring their enmity for the former. As a Christian he was firm in his faith unto the end. His days of suffering were days of prayer, a living sermon to teach us how to live and to die.

Father Klusman reached the extreme old age of 91 years, 11 months and one day. The living children of Mr. Klusman are as follows: Mrs. Casper Busch, Mrs. Maggie Walters, Mrs. Mary Chapman, Wm., Herman and Henry. All of them are well to do and highly respected citizens of Johnson county except William, who lives in Kansas City. We extend our sincerest sympathy to the sorrowing children and relatives.
