ZULA L. COX, age 99, passed away July 23, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Olathe, KS. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 26 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd. Olathe, followed by funeral services on Monday, July 27 at 10:00 a.m., also in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment, Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Good Samaritan Society of Olathe, 20705 W. 151st Street, Olathe, 66061 or to Vista Baptist Church, Olathe, KS.
Zula was born January 22, 1910 in Marshall, MO to Milton and Birdie Embrey. She married Harry “Joe” Cox in January of 1935, and they raised their family in Olathe, KS. She was employed with Johnson County Nursing Center for several years.
Zula is survived by her daughters Jane and husband Phil Hickman, Olathe, KS and Jolene and husband Dennis Hitt, Olathe, KS, and grandchildren Randy and wife Dawn, Pam and husband Gary, Gene and wife Terri, Preston and wife Kathy, Shannon and wife MiSun, and Phyllis and husband Jeff, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Hazel Chadwick and Virginia Hutchinson, and her brother Milton “Bud” Embrey.
