The Life of John Ewing

An Old Citizen Gone to Rest

John Ewing died at his residence in south Olathe last Friday morning, July 5, aged 68 years and 6 months. The funeral was conducted from the home of the deceased last Saturday at 2:30 p. m., by Rev. A. V. Stout, and was attended by numerous friends from both town and country.

Mr. Ewing had been ailing with a complication of troubles for a long time, and his death from heart failure was not unexpected. His departure was so easy that it was scarcely notice able, like the expiring flames of a lamp when the fuel has been exhausted.

The deceased came to Johnson county at an early, day, soon after the war for the union was ended, and located on a farm a few miles east of Olathe where he continued to reside and prosper until a few years ago when he removed to Olathe on account of his advancing age and infirmities. Here he seemed to improve in health, and for a long time was a familiar character on our streets, always having a kind word and cheerful greeting for all. The attendance at the funeral manifested the universal esteem in which Uncle John was held by our people.
