Death of Mrs. Ida May Ekengren

Mrs. Ida May Ekengren, who died in Olathe, Monday morning, October 8, 1928, was Ida May Henderson born in Johnson county, Kansas, November 1, 1866. She as the daughter of William henderson, one of the pioneer settlers of Johnson County, and in his day one of the well known and influential men in the Gardner section of the county. Ida May was educated in the public schools of the county and with her sister, Lucinda, after wards, Mrs. F. V. Ostrander, grew to womanhood here and acquired a wide and influential acquaintance throughout the county in educational and church circles.

Ida May Henderson as married to William F. Ekengren of Olathe, at Gardner, Mr. Ekengren was a member of another well known early day family here, and was a carpenter and builder, until about 1920. Mrs. Ekengren and dher husband continued to live in Olathe.

About that time they moved to California where Mr. Ekengren was killed in an automobile accident November 12, 1922. Most of the time since then Mrs. Ekengren has lived in Olathe. Three months ago she was stricken with paralysis and has been helpless since that time.

The funeral service will be held at the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock p.m., Thursday, conducted by Rev. Briggs.

Mrs. Ekengren was a member of the Presbyterian church and active in the work of that church and its societies. She belonged to sturdy pioneer stock and her religious convictions were deeply roote in those religious feelings which the Kansas pioneers brought with them and upon which they builded the new state.

Ida May Henderson's life was one of usefulness, and helpfulness in her home, in her neighborhood, in her county. She made many and lasting friends who will mourn her death with deep sincerity. Her only near relatives are Mrs. Carolyn Phoebus of Olathe, and J.W. Ostrander, of Mena, Arkansas, children of her sister. Lucinda, who ied September, 1927.
