Obituary of Mrs. Harry L. Coombs

Annie Briggs, daughter of J.W. and Capitola A. Briggs, was born January 6, 1891, and died at her home at 318 West Cedar, Tuesday at 5:20 a.m. January 15, 1929, age 38 years, 9 days.

Annie as she was familiarly called was born and reared in Olathe. She attended the City schools and was graduated with the class of 1909 from the high school, at the age of 18. She continued her studies in a private school in Kansas city, making a specialty of vocal music. Hers was a rare, clear, sweet soprano voice always pleasing, and as long as her health permitted she gave her voice in song for her church. She was a member of the choir for a number of years.

she was baptized unto Christ and united with the Christian church in 1904, and was a faithful attendant at both Worship and bible School, rarely ever missing a service.

She was married to Harry L. Coombs of Olathe June 2, 1917. Three children were born to this union, Harry Edward, Willard Lee, and Charles Donald.

Those left to mourn the passing of this esteemed woman are: the husband and three sons, the mother, Mrs. A. C. Briggs, of Olathe, one sister, Mrs. Jessie Stewart, and daughters, Dorothy, and Helen of Coffeyville, Kansas; the aunt, Mrs. Mary Riley, and sons, Fred, Joe and Harry of Olathe; besides a host of friends.

The funeral services were held from the Christian church Thursday at 2 p.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. G. Davis. Mrs. Ted Jones was at the organ and a male quartett composed of Harry Buchholtz, Roy Townley. E. N. Hill. and Ray Macoubrie sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden," Pall bearers were, W. H. Rosenbury, Earl Smith, Harry Knop, Marion Walton, Captain Carl A. McClintock and Lieutenant Donald m. Ashlock. The body was laid to rest in the Olathe Cemetery beside the remains of her father.
