MRS. BARBARA ELLEN CALLAND

Mrs. Barbara Ellen Calland, aged 71 years, 11 months and 1 day, died Sunday morning, March 24, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. B. Challen, 533 East Park street. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, March 26, at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H. O. Holter and the body was laid to rest in Olathe cemetery by the side of her daughter, Lou, who died here in 1905.

 Barabara Ellen Wise was born at Woodsfield, Monore county, Ohio, April 23, 1841, and was married in that city to Mr. R. M. Calland in 1865. To this union five children were born, four of whom were with their mother at time of her death: Mrs. Claudia Challen and Mrs. Alberta Townley of this city, Mrs. Leota Nelson of Paola and Dr. O. M. Calland of Sandy Point, Idaho.

Mrs. Calland came to Kans. and located in Johnson county in 1883, living for a number of years at Gardner, Spring Hill and Olathe. A year ago last November she went to Ohio for a visit with her sisters and while there was stricken with paralysis, since which time she been an invalid, being confined to her bed the greater portion of the time. Her daughter, Mrs. Challen, immediately went to Ohio and brought her mother home and during all the sixteen months of her illness Mrs. Calland has been tenderly cared for by her daughters. The bond of love and sympathy between this mother and her children was exceptionally strong.
