ATCHISON, KAS., March 28 - William C. Elder, 80, for many years an Olathe, Kans., merchant, died here today at the home of his son, Dr. C.P. Elder. Mr. Elder was the oldest member in years of continuus membership of the Knights of Pythias grand lodge of Kansas an ws one of its first supreme officers.

He was a direct descendant of "Light Horse Harry" Lee.

Mr. Elder was engaged in the general merchandise business at Olathe from 1870 until eight years ago, when he retired and moved to Atchison. Mr. and Mrs. Elder celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here two years ago.

Mr. Clifford Elder, born in April, 1848, in Ohio, was buried Saturday afternoon in the Olathe cmetery. The services were held in the Methodist church of which he ha been a deacon practically all of his life until he left Olathe and made his home with his son, Dr. Elder of Atchison.

Mr. Elder's father was Joseph Elder one of the earliest merchants in Oalthe. After his death Clifford Elder ran the grocery store, selling out his business just prior to his departure from Olathe.

The name of Elder is a synom of strong probity and honesty and the family had obtained a high reputation throughout their lives in this county. Dr. Elder, the son of Clifford, is a dentist of repute and he enjoys a lucrative practice in Atchison. The older friends among the earlier citizens of the county were in attendance at the funeral.
