The Life of Daniel Chesney

Daniel Chesney, 91, Olathe, one of the last members of a well-known Johnson County family, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1916, at the Lenexa farmhouse of his parents, Alexander and Catlierlne Reville Chesney. He lived in Johnson County most of his life. Daniel married Evelyn F. "Tiny" Cox on Nov. 4, 1939. They were married 57 years before her death Jan. 4, 1997. He was also preceded in death by 5 brothers, Alex Chesney, George Chesney, Emmanuel Chesney, David Chesney, Jimmy Chesney; and 4 sisters, Katie Rehorn, Chelly Burns, Margaret Potts, and Jane Sheppard Noel. He Is survived by his wife, Lynna (Fitzpatrick) Chesney of the home; two sons, Daniel Chesney and his wife, Judith Chesney, Grove, Okla., and Gary Chesney, Noblesville, Ind.; a daughter, Linda Chesney Kaut and her husband, Steve Kaut, Olathe; 7 grandchildren, Scott Chesney, Shawn Chesney, Aimee Chesney, Jessica Chesney, Jeremy Chesney, Allison Kaut, and Kendall Kaut; 4 great-grandchildren. Survivors also Include a brother, John Chesney, Olathe; a sister, Estelle Plncomb Burke, Leawood; a daughter-In-law, Connie Chesney, Noblesville, Ind.; two stepsons, Bruce Fitzpatrick and his wife, Beth, and Lee Fitzpatrick and his wife, Stacy, and three stepgrandchildren, all of Gardner. He was a decorated Army veteran of World War II who was stationed In Okinawa and Korea. He served as a staff sergeant In the 7th Division of the 17th Infantry. Early In his career he owned and operated a doughnut shop and a large grocery store, which were both In Kansas City. He was a dairy farmer. He was a grain inspector for the government. He and his first wife, "Tiny," later owned and operated Olathe restaurants, Including the White Way Cafe and the B & B Cafe, He was a member of Vista Baptist church, Olathe, where he was a former deacon. Earlier he was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. He had served on the Monticello Township Board and the Meadow Lane School Board, Visitation wlll be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Vista Baptist Church, 901 N. Parker. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Olathe Memorial Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Vista Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
