OBITUARY.

Addison Bowen was born in Peru, Berkshire county, Mass., on JulY 11, 1885. He departed this life at his home in Olathe, Kansas, on April 1, 1907, aged 81 years, 8 months and 20 days.

At the age of 13 he came to Ohio and at Oberlin enjoyed some of the advantages of education there afforded. In 1858 he came to a farm near Olathe. He had the improvements on this raw prairie land well started when his country called to arms. To this call he could not turn a deaf ear and on July 11, 1861, he enlisted for three years or during the war, in Co. A of the 10th Regiment, Kansas Volunteers Infantry.

He served his full three years and received an honorable discharge on August 1, 1864. The organization of the G. A. R. was to his liking and for years he was a faithful member.

His clean army record and his membership in the G. A. R. were always a source of laudable pride to him. Every comrade was very dear to him.

On October 4, 1864; he was united in marriage to Mrs. S. P. Hill. To them was born just one child, a daughter. Miss Emily.

Mr. Bowen was affectionate, thoughtful and tender in his home and fully reciprocated all the love which the wife and daughter so gladly gave to him.

This wife and daughter have sustained a great loss in his departure.

Very early in life Mr. Bowen became a follower of the Lord Jesus. For a few years after his marriage he was a member with his wife of the Christian church of Olathe. On February 5, 1871, he became a member of the First Presbyterian church of Olathe and was a very consistent and highly honored member to the day of his translation. His faith in the Bible, his confidence in the gospel, his loyalty to Jesus Christ, childlike and unswerving. He prized his treasure in heaven above all earthly possessions. The spiritual welfare of his family and himself were ever uppermost in his thought and frequent subjects of earnest conversation. I

In the death of Mr. Bowen, Olathe has lost one of her oldest and most highly respected citizens.

No soldier ever wore the blue whose heart was warmer with loyalty to his country's best good. This loyalty was a very part of his life as year after year he lived the life of a citizen soldier. For a number of years he was justice of the peace and was noted for his carefully prepared and uniformly just decisions.

As friend and neighbor he was ever kind, thoughtful and honest to a fault. He is not dead but just gone before and as for long years his memory shall last it will be fragrant with the precious perfume of a loyal Christian life well done
