The Life of Henry William Bushong

Henry W. Bushong died at his home on the corner of Poplar and Kansas Avenue Tuesday morning at 1 o'clock, at the age of 76 years, 3 months and 17 days. The funeral services will be held Thursday, January 30 at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. O. M. Bowman of the. Methodist church, from the home under the auspices of the I. O. O. F lodge. Mr. Bushong is an old and respected resident of this city and leaves a widow and four children to mourn his death. The children are Elmer and Melvin Bushong of Olathe; Mrs. James McFarland of Kansas City. Kansas, and Mrs. John Hartung of Iola. More extended obituary next issue.

HENRY W. BUSHONG.

Henry W. Bushong was born in Columbiana, Ohio, October 11, 1831, and died January 2S, aged 76 years, 3 months, 17 days.

Mr. Bushong was married to Miss Nancy Saviers in Richland county, Ohio, September 22, 1853, to which union was given six children, two dying in childhood. Those living are Mrs. Keturah Hartung of Iola, Kansas; Mrs. Ida L. McFarland, Kansas City, Kansas; Elmer E. Bushong and Prof. Melvin S. Bushong, both of Olathe. His wife survives him.

The subject of this sketch came to Kansas in an early day. having emmigrated from Ohio to Olathe, arriving here on the 29th day of March, I866. He made Olathe his home from that time to the day of his death.

He has been prominently identified with the town, having been a contractor and builder for forty years. During that time he has constructed some of the finest homes and largest business blocks in the city. He constructed the high school, the central and Lincoln buildings and has erected a number ot our churches and several buildings for the D. and D. Institution. In his work it was always his pride that it be well done. As a contractor he was deservedly popular, always having all he could do during the build ins season.

Mr. Bushong was a good citizen, an honorable upright gentleman. He was buried from the family residence January 28th and interment was had in Olathe cemetery. All the children and ten grand children were present at the funeral and a large number of friends and neighbors attended the services, conducted by Rev. Bowman of the Methodist church and the Odd Fellows had charge of the exercises at the grave, presenting their impressive ritualistic ceremonies.
