Obituary.

Rev. Joseph H. Wylie was born in Lake County, Indiana, Nov., 13th, 1858, and died in Olathe, Kansas, Sept., 30th 1890.

He was the son of a Reformed Presbyterian Minister and at the age of 14 years became a member of the Reformed Presbyterian church. He graduated from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa. in 1881, after which he spent four years in the Theological Seminary, and then accepted a call to McKeesport, Pa. He was married Jan. 19th, 1888 to Miss Lizzie Adams, of Pittsburg Pa., who with two children, the fruit of this union, now mourns his loss.

Three years ago he was called to the pastorate of the R. P. Church in Olathe, which he served faithfully and successfully until his pastorial relation was dissolved by the hand of death. During his brief ministry he obtained a stronghold on the aflections of the people of his own and other churches, and of the citizens generally, and he will be revered in memorv as a christian gentleman and a faithful christian minister.

He was an active member of the City Ministers Alliance, and endeared himself to all his Ministerial brethren by his christian courtesy and brotherly spirit. As an expression of their grief and of their sympathy with those who mourn the Alliance presents the following resolutions:

1st. That we recognize the right of him that ruleth in Heaven and earth to do all things according to the counsels of his own will, and therefore we humbly bow to the Providence which has brought us this bereavement.

2nd. That in the death of Brother J. H. Wylie we believe the church and community have sustained a loss which can be compensated only by the influence of his life which will live after him, and by The Hand that doeth all things well.

3rd. That we, as Pastors of the respective churches in Olathe, deeply feel our loss in being deprived of the fellowships and counsels of our brother, and that our associations with him will be ever cherished in our memories.

.4th. That we deeply sympathise with the relatives, the bereaved wife, the fatherless children, and the pastorless church, and humbly pray that they may be comforted and sustained by Him whose tender mercies are over all.

  1. R. Moore,
    A. V. Stout
