The Life of Emma Cassalberry

Olathe lost anothers of its pioneer citizens last Monday when Mrs. Emma Casselberry, aged 91 years, passed away at her home here immediately follwing a stroke that morning.

This poineer woman was known and beloved by all Olathe, and there is universal sorrow at her passing.

Emma Lewis was born Oct. 30, 1839, at Sickling Hall, near Weatherby, Yorkshire, England. She came to this country in the late 50's, locating in Williamsport, Pa. In 1872 she was married to George Lewis Casselberry. They came to Olathe the same year.

To this union was born one son, George Lewis, who died in Dallas, Texas, Feb. 1 1908, at the age of 34. The husband died in Olathe June 25 1899, at the age of 61. A grandson and a great-grandson are the only surviving relatives.

Mrs. Casselberry had been in excellent health until the day of her death. Only last Saturday she had told to a reporter for the Democrat how well she was feeling in spite of her advanced years. She said she hoped to get downtown now that the weather had become warm.

She had retained vigorous physical and mental faculties all through her old age, and her cheerful manner had been a source of inspiration to those who knew her.

Her life had been an active one, and during her residence here she had made four trips to her old home in England.

Funeral services are being held today at the M.E. Church,. the Rev. E.M. Daniels officiating. Burial was in Oalthe cemetery, the Julien Company in charge.
