The Life of Harry A Davis
KILLED BY SANTA FE ENGINE
Harry Davis of Gardner Struck by Engine Running Rapidly Backward.
Harry Davis, the eighteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Davis, who live on a farm, ten miles southwest of here, was returning to his home from attending a Halloween party at Gardner last Friday night and when he reached the Santa Fe tracks, one mile east of Gardner, his buggy was struck by the tender of an engine which was running rapidly backwards from Edgerton where it had gone for water to Clare, north of Gardner.
Young Davis and the buggy were carried by the tender for a distance of thirty or forty rods and deposited in a heap by the side of the track. Nearly every bone in his body was broken and the buggy was reduced to a shapeless mass. The horse was uninjured, although stripped from the harness and it refused to be lead away from the scene, but stood there all night and well up into the day.
Dr. P. L. Lathrop, coroner of this county, summoned the train crew and others and held an inquest at Gardner Saturday evening. The funeral service was held at the Presbyterian church in Gardner Sunday at, 11 o''clock and the body was interred here. Young Davis was a model boy and especially well-liked by everyone.
