The Life of Estell DeLee Hamblin

Estell “Ed” D. Hamblin, 92, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 13, 2013. Ed was born on May 10, 1921 in Lowry City, Missouri to James Daniel and Mary Gertrude (Draper) Hamblin. He attended and graduated from Clinton High School. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army-Air Corp. In 1942 he married the love of his life Elizabeth Eloise Ahrendt. Together they raised their two sons: Dan and Robert.

Since 1947 Ed was a devoted and dedicated member of the Olathe Lions Club. He was honored as a Life Time – Charter Member and awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Achievement award, the highest honor recognized within the organization. Ed served on the Board of Directors, as Zone Chairman, Past President and Program Chairman for 20 years. Ed was the last living charter member of the Olathe Lions Club.

Ed was a Standard Oil Agent from 1958 to 1975. In 1975 he and his son Robert created Hamblin Petroleum. That company is still in operation today. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Through the years he took interest in coaching his two boys in baseball. His love for family gave him the opportunity to get himself involved in Genealogy. That was something both he and his wife Elizabeth could enjoy. Together they wrote and published two books about their experiences and findings. Later in life after the passing of his wife in 2010, Ed was invited to attend Sunday services at The United Methodist Church. That continued to be an ongoing ritual that he would come to enjoy and look forward to every week.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents: James and Mary Hamblin, his loving wife of 68 years Elizabeth Eloise Hamblin, two brothers: Leonard Hamblin, Linville Hamblin and sister Nadine Junkin. Survivors include his two sons: Dan Hamblin and his wife Peggy and Robert Hamblin and his wife Suzanne all of Olathe, Kansas.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his 4 grandchildren,and 8 great grandchildren.Ed is now holding in his arms his great great grandchild who will soon be born into the Hamblin family. Ed is also survived by his sister: Pauline Ash of Clinton, Missouri. Two brothers: Elvin Hamblin and his wife Juanita of Olathe, Kansas and Dennis Hamblin and his wife Faye of Clinton, Missouri.
