The Life of Mary Elizabeth Hakes

DEATH OF MRS. R. F. HAKES.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Ruttinger) Hakes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ruttinger, was born November 27, 1873, at the rural home ten miles southeast of Olathe. She was united in marriage'' with B. F. Hakes at Freeport, Ill., November 24, 1901. Most of her married life was spent at her childhood home.

Two years ago she suffered a serious illness from which she had fully recovered and was able to care for the home duties. A few weeks ago she became suddenly ill and was taken to the Swedish hospital at Kansas City for an operation, where she departed this life at five o''clock Saturday afternoon.

She united with the Methodist church in her girlhood years. While she has not been directly affiliated in later years she attended where she could and maintained saving faith in Christ. As a girl she worked with the W. C. T. U. and won a medal for excellence. She had many virtues which we will do well to emulate.

She leaves her husband, father and mother, two sisters and one brother, besides many friends to mourn her loss. But our loss is her eternal gain. The funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Monday at 2 p. m., by Rev. Zook. Her death will cause grief to many who had learned to love her and admire her and to many of whom she was an inspiration and help.
