OBITUARY.

Another old citizen has been garnered from this life to the Greater Beyond. The spirit took Its flight at 2 a. m. October 18, 1907, after severel months of intense suffering.

Harvey Jewett was born April 20, 1838, in Ashtabula county, Ohio, and when but nine years of age moved with his mother and step-father to De Kalb county, Illinois.

In 1858 he came to Kansas and settled in the western part of Johnson county, near Lanesfield, or the old town of McCamish.

On May 29, 1868, he married Maria Boyd. From this union six children were born: Chas. W., George N., Gordon, Frank L., Nellie M., and Rose Bell, all of whom survive except Rose, who died May 17, 1903.

The history of the Kansas life of this man is the same as that of all the early settlers, who worked and saved and struggled through famine and drought and failure, that they might make this county of the plains "To blossom as the Rose."

Harvey Jewett did his part well and when his health began to fail he moved with the family in 1893 to Olathe, where he has since resided at No. 200 South Pine street. However, he kept on doing farm work, as much as he was able, until stricken with his last illness, Neuritis, and although all was done that medical science could do, he got no permanent relief until Death's reaper cast in his sickle.

He died at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 28 days. His chair is vacant, his voice is stilled, but his memory will be kept green by those who best understood his life, his environment, his character and parental teachings.
