The Life of William Henry McKee

FORMER RESIDENT DEAD

Body Brought  to Olathe From Colorado.

Wm. Henry McKee. for 40 years a resident of this county, died of valvular heart trouble at Sweetwater. Colorado January 5th. The body was brought to Olathe, arriving Sabbath morning and the funeral was held at the United Presbyterian church Sabbath afternoon at 1 o''clock, conducted by Rev. E. L. McKnight, pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian church

Mr. McKee was born at Lafayette Indiana, May 26, 1844.

He came to Kansas in 1870 and lived here until about is months ago, when he went to Kiowa county, Colorado to take up a homestead. Early in life Mr. McKee united with the United Presbyterian church and he died as he had lived, strong in that faith.

The following is taken from a letter received by a member of the family from Mr. McKee''s nearest neighbor at Sweetwater: "Your father was found early this morning by two young men that were hunting about 8 o''clock a. m. He had laid his glasses on the book he had been reading, had undressed and gone to bed and seemed to have died without any exertion outside of severe pain. The light was still burning when I got there. He had seemed to be pretty well, only a little short of breath on Saturday."

Mr. McKee was a patriot and a true man. He was widely known and very highly respected and his many friends here were grieved to learn of his sudden death. It was made doubly sad from the fact that he died alone. Beside the widow, he is survived by a daughter, Miss Edythe McKee McKee and two sons, Howard H. McKee McKee of near Olathe and R. A. McKee of Kenoma, Missouri.
