The Life of Hannah Rebecca Metcalf
Mrs. Metcalf Dead.
On Thursday of last week Mrs. Hannah B. Metcalf died at her home at Hotel Olathe of typhoid pneumonia after an illness of just one week. Mrs. Metcalf was in her 63d year. For many Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf ived on a farm north of Olathe. Twelve years ago they moved to Olathe and took charge of the Hotel Olathe. Mr. Metcalf died five years ago and since that time with the assistance of her son Grant, Mrs. Metcalf has conducted the hotel.
The funeral was held from the Methodist church Saturday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. J. D. M. Buckner. The deceased leaves four children Lewis Metcalf of Holliday, Mrs. Hattie Kelly of Kansas City, and Grant and Nellie at home. Mrs. Metcalf was beloved by all who knew her and her death brought sorrow into many hearts.

Hannah R. Jewett was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, September 9, 1839. She lived with her parents there until the time of her marriage to James M. Metcalf in 1863. They moved to Kansas in the fall of 1867 locating in Olathe. In 1869 they returned to Illinois locating on a farm near Jacksonville. In 1871 they returned to Johnson county and located on a farm north of Olathe. Some ten years ago they removed to Olathe where Mr. Metcalf took the management of the Olathe hotel. Mr. Metcalf died in 1897 and Mrs. Metcalf conducted the hotel until her death.
Mrs. Metcalf was a member of the M. E. church. She leaves two sons and two daughters, Miss Nellie Metcalf and Grant Metcalf of Olathe, Mrs. Tom Kelly of Ottawa and L. E. Metcalf of Holliday.
