The Life of Norma Silvers

NORMA (COURTRIGHT) SILVERS
Age 91, passed away July 14, 2007 in Jefferson City, MO. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Blackbob Rd., Olathe, KS. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time. Interment, Olathe Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of Olathe Medical Center, 20333 W. 151st Street, Doctor’s Bldg. 2, Suite 301, Olathe, KS 66061.
She was born May 12, 1916 in Bosworth, MO and moved to the Olathe area in 1920, graduating from Olathe High School. Norma was employed with the Southwestern Telephone Company in Topeka, KS, and went on to work for Lowe, Farmer, Bacon and Roe Law Firm in Olathe for many years. Norma was the founder of Hospice of Olathe Medical Center, and was instrumental in the reconstruction of the Courtyard Gazebo. She was also actively involved in the Olathe Community Theater, from both the production to performance aspects of the theater. In earlier years, Norma shared her beautiful singing voice while entertaining at community events. After retiring for several years, Norma opened The Necessary Shop, located in downtown Olathe.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olathe, and a past-president of the Johnson County Old Settlers Association. Mayor Michael Copeland declared September 23, 2004 as Norma Silvers Appreciation Day, in honor of all her tireless service dedicated to our Olathe community.
She is survived by her nephew William and Robbie Courtright of Jefferson City, MO, her step-son Jim and Rochelle Silvers of Olathe, KS, and step-grandsons, Don and Steve Silvers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Silvers, in 1984.
