The Life of Marion Gaines Ross

Marion Gaines Ross, 80, of Olathe passed away June 3, 2010 at Good Samaritan Center in Olathe. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Tuesday June 8, 2010 at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home with Funeral Services following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held in Olathe Memorial Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Good Samaritan Center.

He was born to Charlie and Mary Virgie Ross in Marion, Alabama on October 8, 1929. Gaines grew up in Alabama and spent most of his life there. He went to college at Central Wesleyan University in Central, SC and finished his degree at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Theology with a double major in Bible and Greek. He later received a Masters in School Administration from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL. He had several successful careers first as a minister, second as a school administrator and third as an H&R Block franchise owner.

In 1996 he moved to Kansas to be closer to his family. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Wanda Lewis Ross of Olathe, KS, his daughter Joy D. Johnson and son-in-law, Jim Johnson and grandson Jordan Ross Johnson all of Lenexa, KS. Also remaining are his brother, Gadson S. Ross and sister, Mary Sue Bender who both reside in Alabama.
