The Life of L B Senter

Rev. L. B. Senter

One by one the old land marks are passing away. Those connecting links which join the present with the past are broken. On the morning of Sunday, Sunday, May 8, as the sun was rising in the east the spirit of an old and highly esteemed resident of the Morse vicinity winged its way to the everlasting world.

We refer to the death of Rev. L. B. Senter in the seventy-second years of his age.

The deceased was born in Virginia, January 17, 1827, and died May 8,, 1898. In the year 1849 he was married to Malinda Bishop. In the year 1870 he with his family came to Kansas. He joined the Baptist church.

A sympathetic and charitable neighbor. He was ever ready to extend a helping hand and speak a cheerful word to those on whom the hands of affliction had been severely laid and many a wounded spirit had been cheered by his ministering presence.

He had many sorrows. While his children were yet young he lost his companion and his little ones were left motherless in 1875. His children were Samuel Senter, Madeson Senter, Mary Belew, Rachel French, Mahala Spiers, Jennie Jasper, George Senter, John Senter, and they were all left without a mother and their father trained them up in the way they should go, and they have not departed from their training. In the year 1878 he married Mrs. Hannah Groves, who was a faithful wife and mother. She is left to mourn her loss

Brother Seater left his home Saturday morning to fill his appointment near Stilwell. He preached to them in the afternoon. In his talk he told them he would not be with them many days. He seemed to feel his days were but few. After service he went to his nephew''s. He complained of feeling a pain around his heart. He seemed better before retiring. The gentleman who slept in his room saw him sitting up in bed just before day, but when they went to call him to breakfast they found him dead. The stroke were very severe and his family has the sympathy of a host of friend in their bereavement.

The funeral services were held at his residence three miles south of Morse by Rev. Brown of Hillsdale. The remains were taken to Olathe cemetery and placed by that of his wife to await the resurrection morn.
