The Life of Mary Elizabeth Weldon

IN LOVING REMEMBRANCE. :

Mary Elizabeth Mitchell was born December 10th, 1848, in Taylor county, Ky. At an early age she moved with her parents to Hammondville, Hart county, Ky where her girlhood days were spent, and where she was united in marriage to W. D. Weldon November 24th, 1872. Moving with him to Harrison county, Mo., they there resided until the spring of ''78, when they came to Johnson county, Kansas, and settled on their farm north east of Stanley where they livedo until three years ago, they .moved to their present home in Olathe.

To this union nine children were born, three died in Infancy, the others, four daughters and two sons, are still living, Mrs. Annls Woolery of Olathe, Mrs. Lulu Sargert, near Stanley; Mrs.. There are nine living grand children in the family.

Mrs. Weldon united with the Baptist church at the age of fifteen years of which she remained a member until about fifteen years ago when she united with the Christian church in Stanley where she remained a member until the Master said "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."

While Mrs. Weldon had been at intervals a sufferer for years, her death at four o''clock on the morning of January 11, 1909, came as a shock, casting gloom over the entire community. Having been ill but a few hours, not many knew of the impending danger. Mrs. Weldon was a typical Southern woman, her hospitality to relatives and friends unbounded. A devoted wife and mother, considering no sacrifice too great to be made for the comfort of her family and the advancement and education of her children

. The funeral services were conducted In the Christian church in Olathe at 2 p. m., Wednesday by the pastor. Rev. J. S. Clements. He took for the foundation of his remarks, the 2nd verse of 14th chapter of John. The choir sung "It is Well'' With My Soul" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Miss Alleen Iles sung the beautiful solo, "Face to Face."

The ladies of the Oxford Club of which Mrs. Weldon was an appreciated member from her countrv home, were present in a body and at Mr. Weldon''s request sung as the closing song; "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." 

The floral tributes were exceptionally beautiful and numerous silent messengers of love and sympathy of various orders, societies, relatives and friends

 There were present beside all the immediate family, six nieces, four nephews, a brother, a brother-in-law and a host of sympathizing friends from far and near to follow the remains to their last resting place in Olathe cemetery. A. E. M
