When we say that we publish the above notice with regret and sorrow, we feel satisfied that we echo the sentiments of our entire community; for in the death of the Hon. Abner Arrasmith, we have lost one of our most able citizens.

Abner Arrasmith was born in Paris, Kentucky, July 9th, 1812. His parents moved with him to Vermillion county Indiana, in 1830; from there they moved to Mercer county, Illinois, where he was married in 1830, to Elizabeth Peckenpaugh; he moved from there to Johnson county, Iwoa, and from there to Linn county, Iowa, where he was elected and served as Justice of the Peace for 24 years; he also filled the office of county commissioner, and other official positions. In 1857 he united with the M.E. Church and has been an exemplary member of that church to the date of his death.

In 1865 he came to Johnson county, Kansas, and located in Oxford Township, where his wife died Jan. 31, 1868. His merits as a leader of men were recognized by electing him Justice of the PEace in 1867 and State Senator in 1868. He was married Oct 5th, 1869, to Mrs. Charlotte Kent, of Knox County, Illinois. On account of his health he left his farm and moved to this city, in Oct. 1882, where he lived, respected by all, to the date of his death.
