The Life of Joseph Glenn Amos

OLATHE - Amos, Joseph Glenn "Joe," 52, passed away May 26, 2006. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 13145 S. Blackbob Rd. Friends may call on the family from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula, Olathe, Kan. Interment will be at Olathe Memorial Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Blue Valley North High School Library Fund. Joe was born Aug. 22, 1953 to Glenn and Mavis Amos of Scranton, Kan. He graduated from Burlingame, Kan. High School. While in high school he earned varsity letters in three sports and the Eagle Scout rank as part of Troop 111. He received a BA from Ottawa University, where he was a four year letter winner on the football team. Joe went on to earn a MS and a MLS from Emporia State University. Joe was a lifelong high school teacher and coach, for the last 20 years at Blue Valley North High School, Overland Park, Kan. As the head track coach there, he was most proud of the team's two state championships in 1993 and 1999. Joe received many teaching awards over his 31 years as a teacher and librarian. Furthermore, he was a leader in the school improvement process and was always seeking better ways to help kids learn. Joe was a loving husband and father. Survived by his wife, Renee; son, Mike of Baltimore; daughter, Brooke; son, Will both of the home; father, Glenn of Burlingame; brother, Roy of Waukomis, Okla. McGilley & Frye Chapel (913) 782-0582.
