Gloria Gyllberg Bond passed away Wed, 25 June 2014 at her residence at the Good Samaritan in Olathe after spending the morning with friends. She was laid to rest at Olathe Memorial Cemetery 7/7/2014 with the gathering of friends and family to wish her well. Gloria was born in Pomona, California on 13 Dec 1929 to Audrea James of Washington State, and Martin Gyllberg of Harnos, Sweden. She was the youngest of two girls. She and her older sister Sylvia remained best friends the whole of their lives. She grew up in Pomona and attended Pomona High School and later attended Pomona Junior College where she studied to be a dental assistant. In 1949 she married Charles Bond (1924-2010) of Burbank California, an Air Force pilot. She bore him two sons, Steven in 1952 and Timothy in 1956 (d. 2009). She loved being the wife of an Air Force officer traveling across the county making a home for her family in cities and outposts for 18 years. Their career moved them from southern and northern California, to Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and eventually to Redondo Beach, California. In 1966 she divorced Charles and became a working single mom raising her two boys, seeing them through high school and university. She worked as the practice manager of a dental office and later for Hughes Aircraft. In 1979 she met her life companion, Wendell, who she lived with until his death in 1991. Together, they enjoyed their retirement taking tropical vacations and ocean cruises. After Wendy passed away, she moved to Shawnee-Mission Kansas, and eventually to Olathe to be close to her Son Timothy and his family, to be grandma to Drew and Katie, a role she loved very much. She belonged to the Episcopal Church. In Kansas she was a member of the Tabitha Foundation, and worked part-time as a elder-helper and personal assistant. In the last decade of their lives she and Charles became friends again and spoke and wrote to each other often until his death in 2010. She is remembered for her zest for life, and her generosity, her love of opera and music. She was a kind, considerate, and a caring, devoted friend and mother. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sylvia, and by her son Timothy (buried in same cemetery). She is survived by her son Steven of Santa Cruz, CA and grand children Andrew and Kathleen of Olathe, KS, her niece Karen and grand niece Cyndi of Palm Springs, CA.
