The Life of EMMA K LIKER
Emma Liker, 94, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015, at Karen Acres Healthcare Center, Urbandale, Iowa. She was born February 16, 1921, in Lovilia, Iowa. At the age of 1, her family returned to Croatia where she lived until 1959 when she returned to the United States to raise her son. She worked at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and retired after 20 years.
She and her husband were active members of the Croatian Fraternal Slavic Center in Des Moines and the Croatian community.
She is survived by a son, Steve (Bobbi) of Urbandale; two grandsons, Nick (Sara) of Urbandale, and Mark Liker of Denver, Colorado. She also has two step grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Halverson of Ankeny, and Julie (Todd) Scebold of Ames. She has two great-grandsons, Jack and Bennett; and four step great-grandchildren, Taylor and Toby Linder, Zach and Mallory Halverson. She is also survived by one brother, Tony Krpan of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brothers, Steve, Dan, Luke and Nick; and sisters, Mary, Catherine, and Ann.
The family would like to thank all of the staff of Karen Acres and Unity Point Hospice.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with visitation held one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Dear Emma as I remember...
She was such a kind and caring person and it resonated thru-out her family. I became a family friend thru my sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Krpan. I went to school with Emma and John's son, Steve.
There was a time many weekly polka dances and dinners were held and family joined in with the festivities. It was their way to be so giving and kind. Prayers go out to the Liker and Krpan family and God Bless. :( :)
