The Life of Rose Mary Gilbert
YOUNGSTOWN - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home Inc. for Mrs. Rose Mary Gilbert, 92, who departed this life Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Gilbert was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Roanoke, Va., a daughter of Willie Sr. and Sarah Grastie Robinson.
She was a nurses’ aide for Little Forest Nursing and was a laundress for Diamondhead Nursing Home, retiring in 1995.
Mrs. Gilbert was a member of St. James AME Church, its stewardess board and missionary society, and in 1985, was recognized as having the largest family in the church. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, Louis Sr., died in 1991.
She leaves children Pauline Bracy of Campbell, Louis (Sharon) Gilbert Jr., Sarah Forte, Joyce Stewart, Phyllis Poole and Genevieve (Vincent) Jenkins, all of Youngstown, Carvilla (Michele) Gilbert of Jacksonville, Fla., Herbert Gilbert of Palm Coast, Fla. and James (Mary Jane) Gilbert of East Palestine; a stepdaughter, Delores (Charles) Hickerson of Cleveland; a sister, Elsie Wade of Akron; 40 grandchildren; over 100 great-grandchildren; and approximately 65 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ruby Gilbert; two sons, Edward Gilbert and Paul L. Freeman; four sisters, Malidia and Corrine Robinson, Mary Jo Johnson and Daisy A. Dabney; and three brothers, Willie Jr., Lawrence and James Robinson.
