Sibling of Hunley Submarine Crew Member

Mary Joyner, along with her sister Emma Ridgway, are burried together here at Arlington. They are sisters of Joseph Ridgway, crewmember of the Hunley submarine.

After 130 years, the Hunley, a Civil War submarine was raised from beneath the Charleston Harbor. The remains of Mary and her sister Emma were exhumed in 2004 to obtain DNA samples used to identify the crew member Joseph Ridgway.
